Hillside New Tech High School is a small innovative, STEM high school located in Durham, North Carolina. Established in 2007, Hillside New Tech is designed to offer an alternative to the traditional high school experience and provide students with a uniquely different learning environment. This environment is enriched with a one-to-one computer-to-student ratio, Project-Based Learning instructional model, and a small school environment designed to build positive working relationships with teachers and fellow students. Here at Hillside New Tech High School, we are dedicated to having our students understand how educational content relates to real-world experiences. We do so by making sure that students have access to the technologies they will encounter in higher education and the workplace, and by teaching them the 21st century skills as laid out by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills.
Our Partners in Innovative Education are the New Tech Network of Napa, California and the North Carolina New Schools. In 2009, Hillside New Tech High School was named a Demonstration Site for the New Tech Network and in 2010 began serving as a Learning Lab Initiative (LLI) School with North Carolina New Schools. As a demonstration site for the New Tech Network and an LLI school, we are able to showcase the teaching and learning that ensures all students graduate ready for college, careers, and life.
